In January 2025, 89.05 thousand tons of flat rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 24.7% more compared to January 2024, and 1.4% more than the previous month. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on the State Customs Service database.The largest import volumes for the month are hot-rolled flat rolled products (UKTZED - 7208) - 36.58 thousand tons, which is 27% more year-on-year and 8.4% less month-on-month. The key supplier of products is Turkey - 33.83 thousand tons. Another 0.8 thousand tons were imported from Italy. Also, 30.2 thousand tons were sent to the Ukrainian market in January of this year. tons (+1.9% y/y; -28.6% m/m) of coated flat rolled products (UKTZED – 7210). Turkey sent 13.88 thousand tons of the corresponding products to Ukraine, Poland – 5.24 thousand tons, and Slovakia – 4.76 thousand tons. Imports of cold-rolled flat rolled products (UKTZED – 7209) during the month increased by 342.2% y/y and 223.4% m/m – to 14.77 thousand tons. 10.69 thousand tons were imported from Turkey, and 3.8 thousand tons from China.Ukrainian consumers’ spending on imports of flat rolled products in January increased by 6.1% y/y and decreased by 2.1% m/m – to $85.64 million. Recall that in 2024, 983.49 thousand tons of flat rolled metal were sent to the Ukrainian market, which is 8.3% more than in 2023. About half of the imports were for coated flat rolled metal - 468.61 thousand tons (+7% y/y). Another 34.7% of deliveries or 341.21 thousand tons (+8.7% y/y) were for hot-rolled flat rolled metal, and 79.31 thousand tons (-0.9% y/y) for cold-rolled flat rolled metal. Expenditures on imports of flat rolled metal in 2024 increased by 5% y/y - to $1.08 billion.
