Ukrnafta introduces artificial intelligence into oil and gas production

The state-owned company Ukrnafta has begun using artificial intelligence to increase efficiency in oil and gas production. The company has created an Innovation Technologies Department, which is responsible for the development of AI solutions and the implementation of international practices.Neural network algorithms analyze historical data collected over 65 years, including research results, technical parameters, geophysical curves, and expert opinions. Based on these archives, a number of tools have already been implemented:models for determining the permeability of rocks;automatic processing and comparison of geophysical curves of wells;a system for recognizing geophysical curves on scanned documents for their digitization.Data from 575 wells, including core material and logging documents for the period 1953–2018, were used to train the models. The developments are based on the approaches of leading global oil and gas companies, adapted to Ukrainian realities.Ukrnafta is convinced that the integration of modern technologies will allow not only to automate routine processes, but also to solve complex geological and technical tasks much more efficiently.
