Wheat prices in Ukraine are rising amid high demand and limited supply, despite a decline in world prices

According to analysts, prices for 2nd-class food wheat delivered to the mill range from 11,000–11,500 UAH/t, which exceeds export prices, which are 10,800–11,000 UAH/t or $232–235/t delivered to ports.On world markets, May wheat futures show a decrease:

for soft winter SRW wheat in Chicago — by 1.5% to $201.2/t;
for hard winter HRW wheat in Kansas City — by 2.3% to $204/t;
for hard spring HRS wheat in Minneapolis — by 1.7% to $222.2/t;
for wheat on the Euronext exchange in Paris — by 2% to €214.25/t or $243.2/t.

The decrease in world prices is associated with forecasts of good precipitation in key wheat growing regions, in particular in Kansas and Texas, which contributes to the improvement of the condition of crops.In Ukraine, according to forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the wheat harvest in 2025 This year, it could grow to 25 million tons due to an increase in the sown area to 5 million hectares.
However, the prolonged lack of precipitation and low soil moisture levels raise concerns about the future harvest.Wheat exports from Ukraine in the 2024/25 marketing year are 13.42 million tons, which is 11.8% less than in the same period last year. In April, exports amounted to only 300 thousand tons, while last year during the same period 1.17 million tons were exported.Thus, the domestic market of Ukraine is demonstrating an increase in wheat prices due to high demand and limited supply, despite a decrease in world prices. Further price dynamics will depend on weather conditions and the state of crops in the coming months.
