Ukrainian farmers will be able to receive compensation of up to 10 thousand hryvnias per hectare of cotton crops. The corresponding initiative was supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on April 29 within the framework of the program for the development of strategic crops. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. As noted by the department, cotton cultivation is of critical importance for import substitution and the development of domestic industry, in particular in the field of processing raw materials for the production of nitrocellulose.
Ukraine's estimated annual need for this material is 10 thousand tons."To meet this need, it is necessary to sow about 30 thousand hectares of cotton or half as much - provided that it is grown on irrigated land. The most promising area for this is the Odesa region," the Odessa Regional Agricultural Policy Department noted.Global demand for cotton is growing. Due to the shortage of gunpowder, leading arms manufacturers, including Sweden's Saab and Germany's Rheinmetall, have drawn attention to the critical dependence of the European market on Chinese cotton fiber, which currently accounts for about half of the world trade in this raw material. Among the largest importers are Germany, Sweden and Belgium. The development of the cotton cluster is part of a broader strategy to strengthen national economic security and technological independence.
