Walnut orchards created with a state grant are 95% hazelnut

During 2017–2025, 41% of all newly created orchards in Ukraine planted with state support accounted for walnut plantations, of which 95% are hazelnuts. This was reported by the President of the Ukrainian Walnut Association, Gennady Yudin, in a comment to the publication "Gardening in Ukrainian".According to him, hazelnuts have become a new industrial direction that has been actively developing since 2017. Today, most of the new plantations have already begun to bear fruit, which marks the transition to a new stage - harvesting, primary processing and preparation of nuts for sale or deeper processing."

A new era of hazelnut orchards has come. Its first step is timely and high-quality harvesting, its technological processing and preparation for sale," Yudin noted. One of the main challenges, according to the head of the association, is the mechanization of harvesting, given the shortage of labor. Producers need to determine in advance which equipment is best suited, where to purchase it, and how to find a balance between the quality of the equipment and the cost.Yudin also emphasized that the formation of sales strategies — both on the domestic market and for export — should take place in advance, because with the entry of orchards into commercial fruiting, farmers will receive significant volumes of products.
