Ukraine has returned to active imports of food potatoes - this trend determines the beginning of 2025 on the domestic vegetable market. This is stated in the market review of the magazine "Plantator".According to the fruit and vegetable market analyst of the EastFruit project Yevgeny Kuzin, from July 2024 to March 2025, Ukraine imported 83 thousand tons of potatoes. This is a record figure for the last four seasons and one of the highest for the entire period of independence.
According to the expert, more potatoes were supplied only in the seasons 2019/20 (mostly from Russia and Belarus) and 2020/21 (from EU countries).Currently, the main suppliers are the countries of the European Union (2024 harvest) and Egypt, which has begun to supply a new harvest.During the season, analysts also recorded an increase in selling prices for potatoes after a short period of stability. However, from late March to early April, prices began to gradually decline.Along with potatoes, record high prices were also recorded for other borscht vegetables, as well as for greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes of Ukrainian production.
