Today, May 9, Ukraine celebrates Europe Day simultaneously with the countries of the European Union. This holiday was introduced by presidential decree in May 2023 with the aim of strengthening unity with the European community, supporting the values of democracy, peace, security and stability on the continent. The new format of the celebration replaced the previous provision, according to which Europe Day in Ukraine was celebrated on the third Saturday of May.
This change symbolizes Ukraine's clear desire to be part of the democratic world and confirms its value affinity with the countries of the European Union.The holiday is celebrated on the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which marked the beginning of European integration. It was on May 9, 1950, that it was proposed to create the European Coal and Steel Community - an organization that later grew into the European Union.
This step was aimed at ensuring peace through economic unification.In the modern context, Europe Day for Ukraine is a symbol of the choice in favor of freedom, dignity, democracy and the rule of law.
