Britain reorients blueberry imports to Eastern Europe — role of Ukraine and Poland grows

Against the backdrop of a failed season in Spain, which has traditionally been a key supplier of blueberries to the UK, London is reviewing the geography of imports of this berry. According to agronews.ua, British importers are increasingly paying attention to Eastern European countries — in particular, Ukraine and Poland. The failure in supplies from Spain is associated with the wettest start to the year in the last 150 years, which disrupted the usual ripening dates and caused the loss of production peaks. The promised additional volumes from Morocco also did not arrive, which exacerbated the shortage on the market.Against this backdrop, Ukrainian and Polish producers have found themselves in the spotlight of European traders. Poland, despite the May frosts, was able to stabilize the harvest, and Ukraine is demonstrating a steady increase in supplies, although so far in smaller volumes. The change in supply structure creates new opportunities for exporters from Eastern Europe and can stimulate the development of the berry business in the region, including production expansion, logistics investments and entry into new markets.
