Ukraine became the leader in the export of chicken eggs to the UK in 2025

Ukraine and Poland became the main suppliers of chicken eggs to the UK market, significantly increasing their exports in the first half of 2025. According to the UK government's Animal and Plant Health Agency, during this period Ukraine exported 8 million kilograms of chicken eggs to the country. Poland came in second place with almost 7 million kilograms, and Spain - with 4.7 million kilograms. In general, egg imports from various European countries occupy 12% of the British market.Local producers in the UK express dissatisfaction with the increase in egg imports, in particular from chickens kept in cages. They emphasize that since 2012 the UK has banned the cage keeping of birds, while in many exporting countries this practice is still allowed. According to British farmers, the country's government requires them to meet high standards of animal welfare, but at the same time allows imports of products produced to less stringent standards.
