NVIDIA and Uber have announced a strategic partnership to develop and launch the world's largest network of Level 4 autonomous vehicles, known as robotaxi, the companies said in a joint statement. The project will be based on the new NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 platform, which allows any vehicle to become "autonomous." The first Uber robotaxi based on NVIDIA technology should hit the roads as early as 2027.It is planned to create a global fleet of up to 100,000 autonomous vehicles, as well as a joint AI data factory based on the NVIDIA Cosmos platform to train artificial intelligence systems that provide autonomous driving. The Level 4 autonomy ecosystem has also been joined by Stellantis, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, which are working on passenger cars with NVIDIA technology, and Aurora, Volvo Autonomous Solutions and Waabi - on trucks for long-distance transportation. The DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 platform is equipped with certified sensors, computers and safety systems built on a modular architecture, allowing automakers to integrate autonomous driving technologies into their models faster and more cost-effectively.An additional element of safety will be the NVIDIA Halos program - the industry's first "AI physical safety" certification system for robotaxis and other autonomous systems. The partnership between NVIDIA and Uber could become one of the most ambitious steps in the development of global mobility, opening the way to safer, more efficient and greener transport of the future.
