Record profitability: Ukraine may abandon imports of the popular nut

Hazelnut production in the 2025-2026 season reached its peak profitability, and prices for high-quality kernels in January reached record levels.
According to Andriy Lapa, the owner of a business producing equipment for processing nuts, this year the cost of hazelnuts has increased significantly, reaching 100-200 UAH/kg by the end of the season. The expert emphasizes that today this crop is even more promising for investment and planting than traditional walnuts.
Although currently the domestic market of Ukraine still remains import-dependent and purchases significant volumes of products from Turkey and Azerbaijan, the situation may change dramatically. The development of domestic industrial plantations makes it possible to predict full import substitution in the next 3-5 years, and within five years Ukraine has every chance of reaching the international level and starting active exports of its own hazelnuts.
