The galvanized steel market in Ukraine grew by almost 40% in 2025

  In 2025, the galvanized steel market in Ukraine demonstrated rapid growth, practically returning to the indicators of pre-war 2021, but with significant structural changes in favor of imports.
According to the results of last year, the capacity of the galvanized steel market in Ukraine amounted to 292 thousand tons. This is 39% more compared to the result of 2024, when apparent consumption was 210 thousand tons. The 2025 indicator came as close as possible to the pre-war 2021 - then the market capacity was at the level of 309 thousand tons. The key driver of growth was the increase in demand for galvanized steel from national manufacturers of painted rolled steel, who purchased both Ukrainian-made raw materials and imported metal.
Shipments of Ukrainian-made metal to the domestic market in 2025 increased by 9.5% and amounted to 80 thousand tons. At the same time, import receipts increased by almost 55% y/y, to 212 thousand tons. In 2024, this figure was 137 thousand tons.
Despite the growing demand for galvanized steel, Ukrainian manufacturers are losing their presence in the domestic market: in 2025, the share of Ukrainian products was 27.3% versus 34.8% in 2024. Five years ago (2021), Ukrainian-made galvanized steel dominated the market and accounted for over 70% of total consumption.
Currently, the main player is Turkey, which in 2025 accounted for 59% of total supplies. In absolute terms, Turkish producers shipped 170 thousand tons of galvanized steel to Ukraine, which reflects a 75% increase compared to 2024, when imports from Turkey amounted to 99 thousand tons.
