Ukraine's EU accession: European Commission confirms Ukraine's readiness for negotiations on six clusters

Ukraine is committed to its course for accession to the European Union, and the screening results show this. This was stated by the official representative of the European Commission, Markus Lammert, at a briefing.
“This bilateral analysis was carried out in record time and on all negotiation clusters. Six are ready to be opened,” Lammert said.
Thus, he confirmed the statement made the day before by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, that Ukraine is “technically ready” to open six clusters of negotiations on accession to the European Union.
“Now the member states must make a decision on this issue, and we are ready to help Ukraine move forward on this path to accession,” Lammert noted.
As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the negotiating positions on the last two clusters with the European Union on December 19. Thus, Kyiv has completed all necessary internal procedures to open all six blocks of negotiations on accession to the EU.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka emphasized that Ukraine had fulfilled all its obligations in a short time. According to him, during the year, screening was completed, reform roadmaps were developed and implementation began, which allows the country to move to the next stage of negotiations. For her part, the European Commission's Chief Spokesperson Paula Pinheau stated in early March 2026 that the European Union cannot set an accession date for Ukraine.
Pinheau also commented on whether the EU is ready to support the idea of setting a date for Ukraine's accession, in particular 2027, within the framework of a potential peace agreement.
“We cannot have this as our own benchmark. This is the benchmark of the Ukrainian president, not ours. And we, for our part, are committed to doing everything possible to help Ukraine move forward in this process, because it is, indeed, doing a tremendous job under extremely difficult conditions,” she stressed.
