Ukrainian pea production is showing a strong recovery after the decline caused by the full-scale invasion. Thanks to stable demand, the crop’s profitability and its agronomic advantages, the area under peas in Ukraine is gradually increasing, writes AgroTimes. The main consumers of Ukrainian peas remain Turkey, India, Italy, the UAE, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malaysia. Together, these countries import more than 60% of the production. Last year, Turkey purchased 77.1 thousand tons of peas for more than 18 million US dollars, and India - 76.9 thousand tons for more than 21 million dollars, in particular thanks to the decision on duty-free imports, valid until the end of May 2025.A new impetus for the development of exports was the opening of the Chinese market.
After the introduction of a 100% duty on Canadian peas, Ukraine gained an additional competitive advantage. Since March 2025, certified Ukrainian peas have a demand and potential to gain a foothold in the premium market of the Middle Kingdom. At the same time, domestic processing is growing in Ukraine, in particular the production of split peas, which is in demand in the Persian Gulf countries.Given the favorable price dynamics (on a CIF export basis for Pakistan and India - about $ 350 / t) and stable growth in domestic demand, the 2025 season looks extremely promising for domestic pea producers.
