Ukraine must invest today in infrastructure for the "green" transformation of industry - from the production of DR pellets to the development of hydrogen energy and automation. This was stated by the acting marketing director of Ferrexpo Yaroslavna Blonska during the Vision 2030 summit, GMK Center reports with reference to the company.Ferrexpo is a leading producer of iron ore products, whose shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company is actively working on creating a new industrial model that will meet the decarbonization goals of the European Union.
At the heart of this strategy are DR pellets with an iron content of 67%, which allow reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 37% in steel production."This is not just a new product - it is a key element of the European low-carbon industrial ecosystem. Ukraine has a chance to become part of it if it starts investing in appropriate technologies now," Blonska emphasized.Currently, Ferrexpo supplies pellets to leading steel companies from Austria, Germany, Japan, China, Turkey, Vietnam and other countries with which strategic memoranda have been concluded. In parallel, the company is implementing the Green Mine initiative - a program for the environmental modernization of the mining park. Among the innovations: electric dump trucks, trolley-assist systems, battery locomotives. This allows you to reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions and extend the service life of the equipment. The results are already there: since 2015, Ferrexpo has switched to biofuel instead of gas, which reduced gas consumption by 30%. And in 2021, the company launched a 5 MW solar power plant.Among the priorities for the future are the development of hydrogen technologies, optimization of water and energy consumption, and the search for alternative fuel sources that can be used in production and logistics. In 2024, Ferrexpo paid $50.7 million in taxes and royalties in Ukraine, which emphasizes its systemic role in supporting the economy and stability of the state.
