Sweden allocates over $2 million for IAEA missions in Ukraine

In 2025, the Swedish government decided to allocate 20 million Swedish kronor (over $2 million) to support the missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Ukraine. The main part of this amount will be directed to ensuring the presence of IAEA experts at Ukrainian nuclear power plants, in particular in the Chernobyl zone.

The purpose of the funding is to increase the level of nuclear safety, reduce the risk of armed attacks on nuclear facilities, as well as provide professional advice on nuclear safety and protection from nuclear consequences. In addition, the support will allow the IAEA to provide impartial and independent information to the international community on the state of nuclear safety in Ukraine.

The Swedish government emphasizes that this assistance is in line with the overall strategy of supporting Ukraine against the backdrop of ongoing aggression by the Russian Federation and contributes to maintaining a permanent IAEA presence at the country's key nuclear facilities.
