UZ plans to bring the Euro-gauge to Lviv by the end of 2027

JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” has set a goal to bring the Euro-gauge to Lviv by the end of 2027, which will open up the opportunity for Lviv residents and guests of the city to travel to Vienna, Krakow and Warsaw. This was announced by the chairman of the board of the company Oleksandr Pertsovsky, Interfax-Ukraine reports. According to him, in addition to Lviv and Chernivtsi, an interesting hub for the extension of the Euro-gauge could be Kovel in the northwest, which will allow connecting Volyn and Rivne regions with Poland. The next task of “Ukrzaliznytsia” will be to connect these hubs with each other with a European gauge.Pertsovsky also noted that the company seeks to agree with the European Union on simplifying border control on the railway by analogy with road transport, so that passengers do not waste time at the border. As for internal changes, as the chairman of the board reported, after the separation within the structure of the suburban and locomotive companies, next year it is planned to merge six regional railways, which have all the infrastructure, into an infrastructure operator.
