In Ukraine, interest in niche vegetable crops is growing, primarily sweet potatoes and asparagus. This is stated in the market review of the magazine “Gardening in Ukrainian”, which AgroTimes refers to. According to the assessment of the fruit and vegetable market expert of IA “APK-Inform” Ksenia Guseva, sweet potatoes are gradually moving from the premium segment to the mass segment. If earlier they could be found mainly in high-class supermarkets, now they also appear in ordinary retail chains, and the price has become more affordable.
At the same time, the production of salads and greens is growing. There are more fresh salad mixes, ready-made sets, green onions, dill and parsley on the shelves of retail chains. According to the expert, the choice of these products is now much wider than a few years ago, and favorable conditions stimulate the increase in production.Despite their growing popularity, sweet potatoes and greens remain niche crops, grown mainly for specific orders from retail chains or HoReCa. For such products, it is important to have a guaranteed sales channel even before production begins.
