The European Green Deal envisages achieving biomethane production at the level of 35 billion m³ by 2030 and 100 billion m³ by 2050. Currently, 4.9 billion m³ of this gas is produced and consumed in Europe.Ukraine can become a key supplier of biomethane for Europe, having the potential to produce more than 20 billion m³ per year, which will allow it to occupy 20% of the market. For this, the country has the necessary resources, developed gas infrastructure and specialists, and also has a neighboring scarce market ready for purchases.At the end of January 2025, the first million cubic meters of biomethane were produced in Ukraine. Today, three plants are operating, and by the end of the year, four more are planned to be launched. If all seven plants are operational, the annual production of biomethane in the country can exceed 111 million m³.
