The Ukrainian Startup Fund (UFS), with the support of the European Union, announced the launch of a new grant program Startup EDGE. This initiative with a budget of one million euros will provide financial support to projects at early stages. This, in turn, will strengthen the competitiveness of the Ukrainian startup ecosystem on the global stage. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Digital Economy. The Startup EDGE program will focus on supporting the most promising technological areas that are key to the future of the economy:Deep Tech (Deep Technologies). Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, biotechnology, robotics, 5G and Web 3.0.
Green Tech (“Green” technologies). Solutions for sustainable development, renewable energy, as well as reducing the negative impact on the environment.
EdTech (Educational Technologies). Digital solutions for transforming learning and increasing the accessibility of knowledge.
Grant size and conditions
The program provides for a two-stage funding system focused on different stages of business project development. Startups at the pre-seed stage will be able to receive up to 20 thousand euros, while at the seed stage (seeding stage) funding will amount to up to 40 thousand euros. This grant program is implemented by the UFS with the support of the EU4Innovation East project, funded by the EU and co-financed by the French government. This emphasizes international trust in the innovation potential of Ukraine, which seeks to grow future global “unicorns” (companies valued at over $1 billion).Recall that earlier, the UFS, with the support of UMAEF, provided grants to 13 promising startups for a total of $475 thousand.
