Ukraine and EU agree on updated terms of trade in agricultural products

Ukrainian exporters will be able to take advantage of the new trade regime with the European Union as early as 2025. According to Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka, the decision is bilateral in nature and is valid indefinitely. The next review of the terms towards increasing access to the EU market is scheduled for 2028.Earlier, the EU Council decided to reduce or completely abolish duties on most Ukrainian agricultural goods - in particular dairy products, meat, fruits and vegetables.

Quotas will remain for a number of “sensitive” goods, including sugar, poultry, eggs, wheat, corn and honey. The renewal of the trade agreement will allow preserving the export volumes achieved during the “trade visa-free regime” and prevent potential losses that could reach $800 million. In total, the EU has liberalized or expanded 40 tariff quotas, including an increase in export limits for honey (by 483%), sugar (by 400%), corn (by 53%), wheat (by 30%) and other agricultural products.
